Before the age of 25, Takalah Tan’s younger days was smooth sailing. Despite of his asthmatic condition that he was born with, Tan excelled in sports including lightweight boxing champion, swimming, and he even won the President’s Scout Awards. He also enjoys rock-climbing, archery, and participates in National Marathon. He was then recruited to serve in National Service in Commando Battalion and, later, selected as a candidate to undergo Officer Cadet training. During his time in National University of Singapore (NUS), he received first-prize in Innovation Award in the field of Mechanical and Production Engineering.
Tan seemed to have it all – a decorated athlete, an excellent performer in school, and a job offer from a prestigious multinational company waiting for him right after graduation. In 1994, a tragedy happened. He met a fatal motorbike accident, just one week before embarking on his new career.
